The EVSE Journey: A New Product Manager’s Roadmap

My Journey as TESCO Metering’s New EVSE Product Manager: Kicking Off at the CWMA Conference

Hello everyone! As the newly appointed EVSE Product Manager for TESCO Metering, I’m thrilled to share my journey in this exciting and rapidly evolving space. My role centers on Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE), where I’ll be helping to shape how we approach EVSE testing equipment and ensure our products support the highest standards for charger accuracy and consumer trust.

Attending the Central Division Weights and Measures Conference in Iowa

I recently had the privilege of attending the Central Division Weights and Measures (CWMA) conference in Dubuque, Iowa. This was a perfect introduction to my new role, giving me a first-hand look at the latest developments and a chance to meet some of the dedicated individuals driving change in the EV space. I connected with members of the CWMA who passionately shared their insights on the upcoming EVSE legislation that will take effect January 1, 2025, under the newly revised Handbook 44.

For those who may be new to this, Handbook 44 sets critical standards for commercial measuring equipment, which now includes electric vehicle chargers. The new rules will directly impact accuracy testing requirements, meaning that all EVSE equipment must meet specific standards to ensure consumers are billed accurately for their charging sessions. It’s amazing to see how this legislation brings clarity and standardization, setting the stage for fair and transparent transactions.

A Standout Moment: Meeting Tessa Sanchez from Tesla

One of the highlights of the conference was meeting Tessa Sanchez, Tesla’s Business Development and Public Policy representative. Tessa was at the event supporting an initiative to include QR codes as an accepted electronic receipt mechanism in Handbook 44. Imagine being able to scan a QR code right after charging your vehicle and having an instant digital receipt—it’s a convenience that could really enhance the consumer experience and streamline tracking for all stakeholders.

An Educational and Inspiring Introduction

Overall, the CWMA conference was a fantastic learning experience, reinforcing my enthusiasm and commitment to making a difference as TESCO’s EVSE Product Manager. I returned home with a deeper understanding of how these regulations will shape the landscape for accuracy testing and a renewed excitement for what’s to come.

Exploring Dubuque: A Bit of Fun on the Side

Outside the conference, I had a little time to explore the beautiful city of Dubuque. From its scenic views along the Mississippi River to historic landmarks, Dubuque has a charm all its own, and I enjoyed soaking it all in.

This marks the beginning of my journey, and I look forward to sharing more insights, discoveries, and developments as we move forward. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to explore the world of EVSE and make a positive impact!
